Mildura
Travel up to Mildura early in the year for the Murray River International Music Festival and the Mildura Wentworth Arts Festival and catch some of the creative energy buzzing around this art-loving town. For the literary types, the Mildura Writers Festival in July is a must. Take the opportunity to catch some of the country's big names alongside local heroes at the Riverboats Music Festival, held beside the river each February in Echuca-Moama. September brings the Mildura Wentworth Music Festival for more country music stars. Blues lover? Bring your harp and guitar and head along to the Echuca Moama Winter Blues Festival in July.
Rev it up
Feel the need for speed? Take things up a notch with an Easter visit to the Mildura 100 Ski Race competition or the Club Marine Southern 80 in February, the largest waterskiing race in the world with over 40,000 spectators.
In the pond, on the greens
In December, try your luck at the Cod Classic, Australia's largest inland fresh water fishing competition or head to Corowa for the Murray Golf Masters, held over three days and attracting the best amateur golfers in the region.
For a bit of a exercise and a whole lot of fun, sign up for the Massive Murray Paddle. This popular local event has been running since 1969 and covers a distance of 404km over five days.
