The famous Stawell Gift
Come at Easter for the famous Powercor Stawell Gift. Held every year since 1878, the meet is renowned internationally as a leading professional foot race. For amateur runners, the annual Run The Gap in May offers a range of track lengths, taking in Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park and stunning Lake Bellfield.
There's plenty of sporting competition throughout the year, from cycling events and fun runs to motocross, horse racing and water skiing.
Local flavours
Gourmands ahoy. Make a beeline for the Grampians Grape Escape food and wine festival in May, joining in the celebrations set against the stunning backdrop of Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park. There's no shortage of foodie fun in the Grampians calendar – look for masterclasses, wine tastings and twilight dining events through the year.
Keep the good times rolling long after you get home – fill your basket with locally grown produce and gourmet goodies at farmers markets on your back through the region.
The track
Get your glad rags on for the Avoca Cup in October, and enjoy the fantastic food, wine and track-side entertainment at one of regional Victoria's largest spring racing events. Other popular racing events include the Hamilton Cup, the Dunkeld Cup and Hamilton's Party With The Ponies.
