Little Desert National Park

the Grampians on foot. Uncover the diverse range of flora on the Stringybark Walk and look out for the shy Malleefowl on the Sanctuary-Keith Hateley Nature Walk. Take the 30-minute walk up Pomponderoo Hill to enjoy views of Wimmera River from the lookout, or test your stamina on the overnight Desert Discovery Walk.

Outdoor fun

Camp out beside the Wimmera River at Horseshoe Bend, Ackle Bend and Kiata campgrounds. Go to sleep under a thousand blinking stars and wake to the sound of nature all around. Twitchers will appreciate the more than 220 bird species that call the park home, while four-wheel drive enthusiasts will love exploring the many dirt tracks that criss-cross the park.

Traditional owners

The Wotjobaluk People are the traditional owners of the Little Desert National Park and have inhabited the area for tens of thousands of years. These Indigenous sites make up part of Australia’s heritage so please show respect when visiting.

When to visit

Visit between late winter and early summer to enjoy a mild climate, easy access and an abundance of native wildflowers. This time of year is also perfect for outdoor activities such as bushwalking, camping and four-wheel driving.
