Watch cuddly seals at play in the waters along Victoria's south coast, from the Great Ocean Road down to the rocky shoreline of Phillip Island. Look out over seal colonies from clifftops and beaches, paddle out in kayaks and canoes, or join a cruise to get a closer look at these furry friends.
Island communities
Seal Rocks off Phillip Island is home to more than 16,000 fur seals and the perfect spot for that memorable wildlife encounter. Visit during the breeding season, from October to December, to see seals feeding their young and soaking up the summer sun. Wildlife tours are available all year round.
In the bay
Looking for somewhere closer to home? Join a tour out to Chinaman's Hut in Port Phillip Bay to watch the local Australian fur seal population sunning themselves and taking a break on the octagonal platform.
Along the coast
Travel across the seas from Port Fairy to Lady Julia Percy Island to get a glimpse of the largest colony of Australian fur seals in the southern hemisphere. Watch the seals come back into shore at sunset and keep a look out for little penguins and dolphins, or even the occasional whale in wintertime.
Head west of Portland to Cape Bridgewater to find a large colony of Australian and New Zealand fur seals. Take the trail along the coast and watch seals at play from the viewing platform or join a cruise to enjoy a closer view from the water.
