Visit the picturesque port town of Port Albert for first-class fishing, and stay for a fascinating history lesson. The original gateway to Gippsland, Port Albert is Victoria's first established port. When travelling in Port Albert, you will be visiting the lands of the Gunaikurnai People.

A pioneer story

From the mid-1800s, Port Albert was the supply port for Gippsland's pioneers until the completion of the Melbourne-Sale railway in 1878. It has berthed ships from Europe and America and welcomed thousands of Chinese migrants on their way to the goldfields. More than 40 Georgian and Victorian-style buildings still exist in the town.

Anglers and twitchers

Port Albert remains a commercial port, and its reputation for recreational fishing sees its population swell considerably during summer. Visit the Port Albert Maritime Museum, follow the Old Port Walking Trail, jump on scenic boat tours, fish off Rutters Jetty or order delicious fish and chips to enjoy on the wharf. Nearby Robertson Beach is a popular location for birdwatching and fishing.
