Overview
From wineries and cellar doors to hatted restaurants, country pubs and farm gates, the Murray River region's list of eateries and boutique producers grows with each passing year.
Up, down and by the river
Savour a dinner to remember at the Stefano's, the renowned restaurant that put Mildura's Feast Street on the map. While away a sunny afternoon with an opulent lunch at one of the many riverside eateries, grab lunch aboard a paddle steamer, or start the evening early at rustic local vineyards and country pubs.
Trails and market stalls
Get fruit fresh from the fields at street-side stalls and farmers' markets. The Hume Murray Farmers Market in Wodonga is a regional favourite, as is the fortnightly Sunraysia Farmers' Market in Mildura. Make a holiday of it by following the Farm Gate Trail or Echuca Moama Food and Wine Trail. From local wines and fresh produce to artisan chocolates, preserves and sweets, there's plenty on offer.
The good grape
The Murray is the Victoria’s largest wine-producing region, boasting over two-thirds of the state's total wine output. Soak up the scenery and become an expert on local varietals by signing up for a winery tour in Mildura, Echuca, Corowa or Albury.
Feeling festive? Time your visit to coincide with the Mildura Jazz Food & Wine Festival or the Swan Hill Region Food & Wine Festival.
Freshwater delights
Tuck into a plethora of freshwater fish plucked straight from the Murray River. Pop into food stores and cafes in towns along the river to taste delicious river fare, including yabbies, Murray crays and the famed Murray cod.
