Caravan getaway

Pack the family and holiday essentials and set off on a Murray River getaway in your caravan or motor-home. There are numerous holiday parks along the Murray complete with recreation areas for the little ones, covered camp kitchens, showers, toilets and washing machines, dump points and boom gate security. Certain sites even offer wireless internet, TVs, pools and tennis courts. Call ahead to secure your spot at peak school holiday periods. For RV owners, tour the length of the Murray from Albury to Robinvale-Euston and set up in one of over 15 officially recognised RV friendly towns.

Sleep under the stars

There's nothing quite like sleeping outdoors under cover of the clear country skies, so pick a shaded spot in the bush or a riverside clearing to pitch a tent. Most bush sites are basic so come prepared and make sure to check fire restrictions during your stay. Beware of camping under trees, as river red gums can drop branches without warning. Mildura and surrounds:

Merbein Common
A quiet riverside bush camping area close to Mildura, the Merbein Common is surrounded by a picturesque sandy beach on the Murray River. To get there you travel to Merbein and then take the Old River Road. The common will be on your right.

Bruces Bend
Bruces Bend is a sandy beach around the bend from a large Marina complex with houseboats.
This unpowered, free campsite offers fireplaces and picnic tables and is a great place to fish.
To get there go left into Irymple Ave from 11th Street. Travel to the end then turn right into the Kings Billabong Reserve. Bruces Bend is straight ahead.

Swan Hill and surrounds:

Nyah State Forest
Bush camping areas along the banks of the Murray River.
No facilities.
Located 20 kilometres north of Swan Hill and signposted off the Murray Valley Highway.

Vinifera State Forest
Bush camping areas along the banks of the Murray River.
No facilities.
Located 20 kilometres north of Swan Hill and signposted off the Murray Valley Highway.

Echuca Moama and surrounds:

Gunbower Island State Forest, Cohuna
Bush camping sites on Gunbower Island between the Murray River and Gunbower Creek. Fireplaces.
Access via Cohuna Island Road from Cohuna.

Barmah State Park and Barmah State Forest
Camping is popular along much of the 112-kilometre frontage to the Murray River.
The Narmah Lakes area has toilets, fireplaces and tables. Dispersed camping is permitted elsewhere along the river, with basic facilities at Ulupna Island.
Access via Moira Lakes Road, Barmah.

Christies Beach, Echuca
Beach camping area on the banks of the Murray River just outside Echuca.
Toilets, picnic tables, fireplaces.
Access via Simmie Road from Echuca.

Betts Beach, Echuca
Beach camping area on the banks of the Murray River just outside Echuca.
Betts Beach has no facilities, just bush and sandy beaches.
Access via Simmie Road from Echuca.

Horseshoe Lagoon, Cobram
Beach camping area located 5 kilometres south-east of Cobram.
Horseshoe Lagoon Beach has no facilities, just bush and sandy beaches and a boat ramp.
